Abstract

Nobody listens. It is a sad reality: few people around us understand the importance of listening. Musicians and music educators already have become aware of the deficiency in listening skills of their students. In consequence, the education of the senses has become an issue of great importance, with hearing and the capability to listen being the most important. For this reason, much attention has been paid to authors such as George Kubler, Francesc Torralba or Abate Dinouart. With reference to their arrangements, scholars specifically appreciate the deep knowledge to be found in the simple idea of listening as is prevalent in their works. Their anti-romantic approach to art (with all its culturally different traits), seems to suggest a variety of ways teachers could apply to help their students to listen more effectively. Taking Dinouart, Kubler and Torralba as point of departure, the video creation Nobody listens intends to suggest questions concerning the relationship between listening, contemporary art, pedagogical success and music.
